How
often should I download data?
 |
If you are running System5 the data from the loggers are automatically collected by the Base. We recommend that the Base is permanently connected to the PC. For more information refer to the comprehensive System5 help. |
 |
With non-System5 products how often you download data depends on your individual requirements and how you wish to manage the system. With SL units, checking the red LED alarm light periodically (daily?) may be sufficient: only download if there is an alarm condition, otherwise download on a regular basis perhaps every week or month. With a typical recording period of one hour, a standard SL will store data for nearly six months so you're unlikely to lose any 'due diligence' data.
|
 | The RL system also provides an alarm and can likewise be downloaded when there is an alarm condition. Additionally, if a PC is continuously available it can be set to download automatically when there is an alarm, or at a regular time each day.
Download as often as you wish. You can read (download) the data and clear the memory or you can tell the system to download and continue. Remember though that when the memory fills up the units will usually record over the oldest data (SL and MR units can be programmed to stop when they are full). You can also set the PC to download the data from a collection unit automatically, either when there is an alarm or at a regular time each day. |
Can I
use the temperature readings with other programs on my
PC?
 |
System5 View has a drop-down menu "Print". You are able to use this option to export data to other formats such as Excel or word. |
 |
for non-System5 , there is an
option to save all data or just alarm data in
formats suitable for use with word-processors and
spreadsheets. |
What
specification PC do I need to run the Icespy software?
 |
For System5 please refer to Products > Requirements |
 |
For non-System5 any Windows
PC, preferably running Windows 95/98/ME or
NT4/2000. Our software does not make much demand
on the PC so if the PC will happily run your
chosen operating system it will also run the
Icespy software. As supplied, the software only
occupies around 5Mb of your hard disc but
remember you need to allow extra disc space for
your data files. |
 |
For non-System5 an older PC, no
longer deemed adequate for office work, will be
perfectly sufficient. |
What
operating systems will the Icespy software work with.
 |
For System5 please refer to Products > Requirements |
 |
For RL : Windows 95/98/ME or Windows NT4/2000. |
 | QL, SL and RL will
also run on Win 3.1/3.11 systems although not all functions are
available. |
Can I
connect a printer direct to the equipment to obtain
readings.
 |
Not for System5. Here the data can be sent to a PC printer. |
 |
For non-System5 legacy products this is a
commonly used method for obtaining printouts. SL
and RL systems both support direct printer
output. The SL system has a portable
(battery-powered) printer available which is easy
to carry around to your sensors. The RL uses a
standard desktop printer. |
Do I
need any other equipment besides the IceSpy system a PC and a
printer?
 |
Not normally. In some
cases you may need to add adaptors to your PC to
cater for extra serial ports, USB or older-style port
connectors. These are available from your normal
PC suppliers. |
